The lake itself is kind of interesting because it really doesn't play a part in any of Baum's books, aside from a brief mention in Lost Princess. Neill uses and names it in Lucky Bucky, but that doesn't tell us what Baum was thinking when he came up with it. There is, of course, the Oz story fragment about the lake involving Gipper-Gupper-Gopp and Ahd, but whether this was actually written by Baum remains a mystery.

I haven't played the game itself, but I've read the rules, and those WIZARD dice sound complicated. Did revivals of the game use those dice, or just normal ones?Nathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17838510995365876113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8930190065426288711.post-76080490849565494292012-05-01T06:05:46.226-07:002012-05-01T06:05:46.226-07:00The Wizard seems to be a bit of a hybrid between t...The Wizard seems to be a bit of a hybrid between the Denslow and Neill versions.

One character who is notably missing is the Nome King (Roquat/Ruggedo). His (ex) Kingdom is not on the map of course, but that didn't stop the artist from putting Rinkitink and Bilbil on it.

And while Baum put the name "Skeezers" on the 1914 map, he didn't specify anything else about it. It seems obvious that this game was designed before GLINDA was published (or at least before the artist had a chance to read the book).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8930190065426288711.post-4878980936205014882012-04-30T21:25:57.999-07:002012-04-30T21:25:57.999-07:00Three minutes more thought and I think it's ev...Three minutes more thought and I think it's even a plan!David Maxinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12672089188117065118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8930190065426288711.post-56129830789827402552012-04-30T21:21:01.085-07:002012-04-30T21:21:01.085-07:00Hmmm .. Since BAum and Denslow shared copyright on WIZARD I suspect that the Baum family could have given permission to use Denslow imagery - while Reilly & Lee could not.David Maxinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12672089188117065118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8930190065426288711.post-38167981882223624712012-04-30T19:11:32.476-07:002012-04-30T19:11:32.476-07:00I love the board because of all the characters.
